Mr. Gorton

Mr. Gorton is a middle school U.S history teacher here at DaVinci Academy. He was born in Dewitt, Michigan, and recently moved to Utah to become a professional teacher. He has wanted to teach since his senior year in high school. He was inspired to teach by his high school history teacher, who he describes as “a fun guy, who was always joking around.” He also was inspired by a college professor, and his parents who always stood by his side.

Before Mr. Gorton started at DaVinci, he was a student teacher. He has many great memories from student teaching, but his favorite was the nickname the students gave to him, “The Legend.” He is not quite sure why he was given that nickname, but it had stuck with him throughout his time working with those students.

Mr. Gorton’s favorite movie is the 90’s cult classic, Wayne’s World which was inspired by a ‘Saturday Night Live’ skit. Mr. Gorton explains himself as “a pretty big Mike Myers fan,” (One of the actors who stars in Wayne’s World) He also enjoys the Austin Powers films, also because they’re funny and entertaining. His favorite band is an alternative rock group from Doylestown, Pennsylvania called Balance and Composure, who are often compared to bands like Nirvana. Mr. Gorton also enjoys playing lacrosse, which is commonly compared to American Football.
